 One in Love

Why do we hurt the people we love?
What gives me the right to push and shove
You with my words and deeds,
taking away all of your dignity.
I tell you I love you then push you to the side
when someone else builds up my pride.
I tell you I love you then make you wait
for my phone call or that next date.
I tell you I love you then turn up my nose
because you surprised me with the wrong color rose.
I tell you I love you then I don't have time
to celebrate when your dreams come alive.
I tell you I love you then I don't want to try
to work things out during the challenging times.
The problem is, I don't love me
and I'm afraid you will take my dignity,
but my actions show, it’s already gone
Cuz’ as Frankie Beverly says,
We Are One
“Can’t understand
Why we treat each other in this way
Taking up time
With the silly, silly games we play
We’ve got our love
And no matter how it’s said and done
We are one”
When I hurt you, I'm hurting me too.
Hmmm..could the opposite be true?
If I proceed with love in all I do,
then love will take care of me and you.
Love is an action, not just talk.
In love's footsteps is where I'll walk.
I hope you will take that walk with me.
Love has finally set my heart free
And given me back my dignity.
No more games, no more pain,
Just you and me.
